Logistics and Forwarding Call for Rapid Solution on Diesel Fuel Shortage

Logistics and forwarding business players are calling for fast solution to overcome the problem of diesel fuel shortage within the country, especially in some regions of Sulawesi, Kalimantan, and Sumatera.

In addition to causing delays in logistics and transportation services, the diesel fuel shortage has an impact on the disruption of national economic activities.

Chairman of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) Yukki Nugrahawan Hanafi said many complaints (diesel fuel shortage) from logistics business players in the regions, including Sulawesi, Kalimantan and Sumatra have been addressed to the association.

“The government and PT Pertamina (state owned oil company) and related business actors as well should do coordination to find the best solution. If necessary, just cut off the subsidy for diesel fuel, so that business actors can get certainty and can work normally,” Yukki said in press statement this morning, (Tuesday, March 23).

Quoting what have been experienced by the logistics business players, Yukki revealed that diesel fuel shortage has been taken place for a long time. They are currently in a critical condition because the supply of diesel fuel is very low.

“Distribution of subsidized diesel fuel should be routinely done to ensure its availability. Make sure that diesel fuel should be distributed to appropriate consumers,” Yukki said, noting that most of the subsidized diesel fuel have been consumed by vehicles transporting palm oil and mining, which should not receive subsidies.

PT Pertamina noted that the consumption of subsidized diesel fuel increased significantly in line with the community economy and domestic industry recovery. Currently, the company has ensured the stock and ensured that the distribution process of subsidized diesel is maximal.

PT Pertamina will also focus on logistics services and consumer distribution channels to overcome the shortage of subsidized diesel that is now engulfing a number of regions.

“National stock of subsidized diesel is at the level of 20 days and every day this stock as well as the distribution process to gas stations continues to be monitored in real time. However, it is necessary to note that nationally as of February the distribution of subsidized diesel has exceeded the quota by around 10 percent,” Pertamina Patra Niaga Acting Corporate Secretary Irto Ginting said in a recent press statement.

Irto Ginting expects the public not to be panic shopping and buy fuel as needed.

According to the Presidential Regulation Number 191 of 2014, users who are entitled to subsidized diesel for the transportation sector are including black plate motorized  vehicles for transporting people or goods, yellow plate motorized vehicles except for cars transporting mining and plantation products with more than six wheels, public service vehicles (ambulances, firefighters, garbage collectors), Indonesian-flagged public transport ships, pioneer ships, as well as general passenger and freight trains.
